Why a “Former Thumb Sucker” Still Needs Myofunctional Therapy

After a thumb sucker kicks the habit, the myofunctional dysfunction remains. The obstacle may be gone, but the poor oral posture and tongue thrust are left behind.

A thumb sucker develops a tongue thrust and low resting tongue posture due to the obstacle (the thumb) being in the mouth.  A person swallows 1200-2000 times per day.  Do you think a thumb sucker removes the thumb every time he or she needs to swallow?  No way!  So…the tongue thrust is born!

In this week’s video, learn why myofunctional therapy is still important!
